One of the most dangerous families on television could possibly be making a comeback on the silver screen. Since the show’s ambiguous ending in 2007 which left viewers literally in the dark, there has been much talk of a possible Sopranos movie in the works and that a script has already been written. Furthermore, actress Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi) mentioned to the New York Daily News that her and her fellow cast members have not turned away from a potential movie project, but have been waiting for the perfect script to come along. Fellow actor Steve Van Zandt (Silvio Dante) is also suggesting, in regard to his character, that although the finale displayed Sil practically on his death bed, he will make a swift recovery in the film. So perhaps he has already seen the script? Who knows?
However, what we do know is that producer David Chase’s memorable finale which made television history, left doors wide open, in regard to the story and from an artistic standpoint, for a film version of the hit show. Not to mention, the popularity and success of last year’s release of the Sex and the City movie proved that an HBO series can be worthy of being put to screen. Given the outcome of The Sopranos finale, a movie would definitely spark some curiosity and intrigue in its fans. But the possibility of a feature film depends on producer David Chase and the executives at HBO.
