About Us

FilmCatcher was founded by a group of veteran indie filmmakers, distributors and lifelong film fans. Our years in, and around, the business have convinced us there is a genuine opportunity to create a place where people who love film can sift through the flood of new releases to find "the good stuff" -- and to create a community devoted to exploring the evolving art of cinema.

We have a few goals for FilmCatcher:

  • to highlight great -- often under-appreciated -- films. There are already many excellent online resources offering pretty much every available film; but that's not what we're about. We're focused on being a trusted "filter" that can cut through the clutter and highlight the films worth seeing. This is totally subjective; and we know it. We want to use our picks as a launch pad for spirited discussion and debate.
  • to create a community where people who love film can engage in thoughtful, articulate, respectful discussion.
  • to develop a new platform for indie film distribution. We're starting modestly, mostly offering carefully-chosen DVDs of titles already in distribution. Over time, however, we expect to evolve into a download-driven site where we also offer new-and-noteworthy unreleased films. This way, we can help a new generation of filmmakers find an audience, without having to depend on the traditional industry "gatekeepers."
  • to "give back" to the film community by contributing 5% off all sales to film-related charities, including FilmAid and others chosen by our celebrities and curators.

In the end, however, it'll be the users who decide what the site is really about. We hope you enjoy it; and look forward to speaking with you often.
