Connecting your computer to a TV

Displaying downloaded movies on your television is easy if you have the right equipment. Just follow these simple instructions and you'll be able to enjoy watching FilmCatcher downloads on your TV in no time.

First things first, your computer needs to have a video port that matches one of the inputs on your television.

If your television does not have a VGA or DVI input (see below) that matches the output port on your computer, you will need to use composite video or S-Video cables — or you might be able to install a new video card that has the right connection.

As well, adapters are available, but note that you will likely experience some level of image quality loss.

If you have a High Definition Television (HDTV), there are other ways to connect your computer. For more information, see HDTV: frequently asked questions.

If your computer is equipped with the right ports as described above, let's get started.

  1. First, turn off your computer and bring it close your television. If your PC is connected to a monitor, please disconnect it (but leave the mouse and keyboard connected).
  2. Connect the appropriate video cable from your computer's video port to your television's input port. Remember, the ports must match — that is, unless you're using a converter to change the video signal to work with your TV.
  3. Next, turn on your television and set it to display the video that's coming into the port which is connected to your computer. You may need to refer to your television's user guide for instructions on how to find and select the right input.
  4. Turn on your computer. You should see your computer's regular display on your television.

NOTES:

- VGA, DVI, and component video cables often provide the highest-quality displays.

- Composite video and S-Video connections generate displays that aren't as sharp.

- If your computer does not have the right video port for your TV, then you might be able to install a new video card with the proper connection for your particular television.
