About Festival

The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate the Independent film - long, short, fiction and documentary - and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. The 14th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival was held Wednesday, October 18 through Sunday, October 22, 2006.

Highlights:

INGRID NEWKIRK, co-founder and president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

Ingrid Newkirk co-founded PETA over 25 years ago, and has been the head of the animal-rights activism organization ever since. The organization has been at the center of many controversies over the years due to its methods, which are considered by some to be "extreme." I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA is a look into her world. Ingrid sat down with FilmCatcher to talk about allowing the filmmakers unfettered access to her life, as well as the struggle for change PETA has been involved in for so long, and how she has attempted to get her political message out.

Happenings:

The Hamptons International Film Festival is a highly respected Northeastern film festival, which boasts a high number of premieres (17 features this year). The Festival has been going on for 15 years and has been growing exponentially for some time now. Over the course of the festival, FilmCatcher was able to catch up with some of the noted filmmakers and subjects who graced the events. Check out our other interviews with Famke Janssen, star of Chris Eigeman's directorial debut film Turn The River, and Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro as they discuss their very personal Iraq War documentary Body of War. Also join us as we speak with Helen Hood Scheer and team as they speak about the experience of making the competitive jump-roping documentary JUMP!, and Andrew Rossi, director of A Table in Heaven, a documentary which profiles the life and work of one of New York's most famous restaurateurs, Sirio Maccioni.
