About Festival

The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate the Independent film - long, short, fiction and documentary - and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. The 14th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival was held Wednesday, October 18 through Sunday, October 22, 2006.

Highlights:

Director, MATTHEW GALKIN

While many Americans are familiar with animal-rights organization PETA, few are aware that the organization's leadership is as centered as it actually is. Matthew Galkin's I Am An Animal: The Story Of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA is a look at the life of the woman who created the organization with one partner almost 30 years ago. Matthew Galkin sat down with FilmCatcher to talk about how to keep the film's message separate from the message of its subject, getting close to Ingrid, and how the film maneuvered through PETA as an organization.

Check out FilmCatcher's interview with Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder and president of PETA and the focus of I Am An Animal.

Happenings:

The Hamptons International Film Festival is a highly respected Northeastern film festival, which boasts a high number of premieres (17 features this year). The Festival has been going on for 15 years and has been growing exponentially for some time now. Over the course of the festival, FilmCatcher was able to catch up with some of the noted filmmakers and subjects who graced the events. Check out our other interviews with Famke Janssen, star of Chris Eigeman's directorial debut film Turn The River, and Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro as they discuss their very personal Iraq War documentary Body of War. Also join us as we speak with Helen Hood Scheer and team as they speak about the experience of making the competitive jump-roping documentary JUMP!, and Andrew Rossi, director of A Table in Heaven, a documentary which profiles the life and work of one of New York's most famous restaurateurs, Sirio Maccioni.
