About Festival

The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate the Independent film - long, short, fiction and documentary - and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. The 14th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival was held Wednesday, October 18 through Sunday, October 22, 2006.

Turn The River is the directorial debut of longtime actor Chris Eigeman (Metropolitan, The Last Days Of Disco). The film concerns a single mother trying to regain custody of her only child, who currently lives with his alcoholic father. Famke Janssen plays the lead role, in a particularly dramatic turn for her. The actress, who won the festival's acting jury prize, relates her experiences regarding working for a first-time director, the difference between studio and independent films, and what it was like to work with her 11-year-old costar.

Happenings:

The Hamptons International Film Festival is a highly respected Northeastern film festival, which boasts a high number of premieres (17 features this year). The Festival has been going on for 15 years and has been growing exponentially for some time now. Over the course of the festival, FilmCatcher was able to catch up with some of the noted filmmakers and subjects who graced the events. Check out our other interviews with Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro as they discuss their very personal Iraq War documentary Body of War and I Am An Animal director Matthew Galkin, and the subject of his fiim, Ingrid Newkirk, the head of the contoversial animal-rights group PETA. Also join us as we speak with Helen Hood Scheer and team as they speak about the experience of making the competitive jump-roping documentary JUMP!, and Andrew Rossi, director of A Table in Heaven, a documentary which profiles the life and work of one of New York's most famous restaurateurs, Sirio Maccioni.
