About Festival

The South by Southwest Film Festival takes place in Austin, Texas, every spring. The festival, which grew out of the SXSW Music Festival, one of the largest music festivals in the U.S., has become one of the world's premiere film festivals know for its selection of independent gems and up-and-coming first-time filmmakers. The festival screens about 150 - 200 of the best independent films produced during the previous year, as well as works from established directors who have inspired the latest generation of filmmakers.

AÑO UÑA-Jonas Cuaron

Highlights:

AÑO UÑA follows an impossible romance between Molly, a 21 year old American, and Diego, a Mexican in the throes of puberty.

Jonas talks with us about the experimental film, his process of starting from real images and then developing a screenplay, and playing with fiction and reality.   

Happenings:

Born In Mexico City in 1983, Jonas recieved his B.F.A. in Fine Arts from New York's Vassar College. In 2001, Jonas co-wrote and co-directed his first short, 8 Stories, with Colt Haussman, which was awarded "Best Film in the U.S. National High School Film Festival. In 2003, he co-wrote and directed the short Un Disparejo. In 2007, Jonas directed The Shock Doctrine, a short film by Alfonso Cuaron and Naomi Klein, about Klein's book of the same name, which will premiered at the 2007 Corto Cortissimo section of the Venice Film Festival. Also in 2007, Jonas completed Ano Una, which he wrote,directed, co-produced, and edited. It is his first feature-length film, and has been selected to competed in the 2007 Venice Film Festival's Critic's Week.
