The South by Southwest Film Festival takes place in Austin, Texas, every spring. The festival, which grew out of the SXSW Music Festival, one of the largest music festivals in the U.S., has become one of the world's premiere film festivals know for its selection of independent gems and up-and-coming first-time filmmakers. The festival screens about 150 - 200 of the best independent films produced during the previous year, as well as works from established directors who have inspired the latest generation of filmmakers.

Director Daniel Stamm and cast talk about the A NECESSARY DEATH which explores the fine line between fiction and reality. Daniel and team discuss wanting the aesthetics of the film to match the story, feeding off of the energy of improvisation, and the morality of watching a documentary like this.
Happenings:
Daniel was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, where as a teenager he was host of a radio show and editor of a youth magazine. He toured with a theater, studied drama and published a play before he went to Belfast, Northern Ireland, as a peace worker. Two years later he returned to Germany to go to film school and study screenwriting at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttembergin Ludwigsburg. He wrote a TV movie about a moody scarecrow and directed adocumentary on rock musician NickCave. Daniel moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in the American Film Institute's directing program. In the following three years he made short films, wrote songs for local singers, and become a certified hypnotist. A Necessary Death is his first feature film.
