The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), held in Toronto, Canada, is widely considered to be one of the top film festivals in the world. It is the premiere film festival in North America from which the Oscars race begins. It is the world's largest film festival open to the general public [1].

Trumbo

Highlights:

A moving, intimate portrait of Oscar-winning screenwriter DALTON TRUMBO (Roman Holiday, Spartacus, etc...), accused of Communist leanings and blacklisted for his 1947 refusal to testify before the House of Un-American Activities.  Intercut with doc footage, an all-star cast (David Strathairn, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Paul Giamatti, Michael Douglas, etc..) read Trumbo's sparkling letters to excellent effect.  Director PETER ASKIN on the film, its politics, and on the uneasy relevance of Trumbo's story, sixty years later.

Happenings:

On the last  day of the festival we'll be watching Gregg Araki's Smiley Face and Paul Crowder and Murray Lerner's Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who.
