FilmAid International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that uses the power of film to change lives. By screening films to hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people each year, FilmAid enriches the lives of the world’s most vulnerable and uprooted.

FilmAid reaches men, women and children who have been forced from their homes by conflict, famine or natural disaster. Its open-air screenings reach audiences of tens of thousands at once – bringing hope, information and a renewed connection to the outside world to people who have suffered unimaginable trauma.

In addition to psychological relief, FilmAid provides screenings and workshops on critical topics such as conflict prevention, human rights, HIV/AIDS, repatriation and gender-based violence. Screenings are also held in community centers, schools, hospitals and infant feeding centers on topics such as teenage pregnancy, reproductive health and education for girls.

FilmAid is also helping refugee youth tell their own stories via the Participatory Video Project (PVP): a hands-on program where young adults in the camps learn how to make films of their own. The PVP targets a new generation of leaders, empowering youth to tell their own stories through their own lens.

Over the past seven years, FilmAid has brought films – and its hopeful message – to refugees, displaced people and their host communities in Kenya, Tanzania, Macedonia, Afghanistan and Louisiana.
