NYFF '08: Gerardo Naranjo

Rooftop Rebellion

Highlights:

We talked with Gerardo Naranjo about his new film VOY A EXPLOTAR (I'M GONNA EXPLODE). When Maru and Ramon, two teenage misfits, are drawn together by a mock hanging, they fantasize about running away from home and family to start their new life together. What they end up doing is pitching a tent on the roof of Ramon's father's house, where they torture their families with misinformation about their whereabouts.

In our interview, Gerardo talks about the French concept of freedom, the media's failure in representing his generation, and the idea that whatever happens on the beach in Mexico, stays on the beach in Mexico.
