WEEKENDFriday night, ripped that wrap off of "Alvin and the Chipmunks"and an Amy's frozen pizza -- whole wheat pesto. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" still fun -- excellent voice talent and I've always liked Jason Lee, although I do not watch "My Name is Earl". Then Saturday: "Forbidden Kingdom" -- was glad to see it did as well at the box office as it did; theatre pretty empty for the matinee we went to. But great to see Jackie Chan in his usual form as well as to see Jet Li with the Monkey King's mischievous grin. Very enjoyable when Chan and Li just laughed at Michael Angarano's character's lack of aptitude and especially when Chan just threw him around in the first big fight -- no glossing over the hero's lack of gung fu. Pretty traditional take the boy who knows nothing and turn him into a man/hero storyline while said hero in training incidentally falls in love with the sorrowing yet vengeful girl so it's one of those movies where it sucks to be the girl, but if you like movement, action, some scenery, no blood and a timeless win for the good guys in your movies, catch this one.
