Smart People

Review of Smart People

Smart idea, smart actors, but...

Loved the cast and the idea for the movie, but ended up being rather underwhelmed. Dennis Quaid's character was so depressed, bitter, and mean that he was hard to root for, and his romance with Sarah Jessica Parker's character seemed less than believable. Quaid's acting was really good, though (I thought the slight potbelly was a nice touch). Ellen Page was wonderful as the depressed, obsessed, brilliant daughter, and Thomas Hayden Church was great as the adopted brother who appears out of nowhere in the nick of time (somewhat of a contrivance). Interesting to watch the family dynamics play out, and there were some chuckles to be had. Didn't dislike it, just was hoping for more...
