What makes films so great are their ability to be appreciated on so many levels. For your average moviegoer, Chinatown is a great suspense flick. Also, any close observer will notice the immense detail that Roman Polanski payed attention to while directing the film: Jack Nicholson is, as always, perfect as the wise-ass, the script grips you from the start, and the cinematography is beautiful and fittingly "film-noirish."
