Pleasant Surprise

Spectacularly acted by both Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood, this film chronicles the father-daughter relationship in a more realistic way than most films. Douglas is a bipolar manic depressive that has just been released by a Mental Institution and readjusts to 'normal' life with his daughter of 16 (Wood). Evan Rachel Wood has been living and working as an adult for two years now, and finds that an imbalance exists when her father returns to their home. The story, then centers around Douglas's character's fascination with searching for gold, and the story that follows is both heartwarming, and sincere. Great performances here, as well as a superb script. But what else would you expect from the people that brought you "Sideways" (just to let you know, I was not a fan of "Sideways", but will always love this film!)?
