Review of I'm Not ThereIt's All ThereIn this deep and provacative documentary on the life of Bob Dylan, we are invited to share in many aspects of the life of the man and artist. Each performer turning in grand performances - Marcus Carl Franklin, as the young troubador mature beyond his years - both lyrically and emotionally, Heath Ledger, battling both fame and love - simultaneously, Ben Whishaw, as our experienced and wise narrator, and Christian Bale as our transformed-by-Christ era Dylan. Whatever type of movie you enjoy - this film, although it jumps around quite a lot, will satisfy even the marginal Dylan fan - or independent film fan as well. Suggested companions for this film are the D.A. Pennebaker doc "Don't Look Back" and the Marty Scorsese's "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" If you have been well versed in these two fine docs, then the movie will clearly be more enjoyable to you. But still - even knowing nothing of Bob Dylan (as I did before the film), it is still enjoyable on a base level seeing the many phases of this great singer-songwriter-poet-artist's life.
