Review of Dan in Real LifeFunny, but its no OfficeSo maybe my standards were set too high for Steve Carell. The trailer for Dan in Real Life is nothing but laughs but the movie itself is really quite a tear jerker. The movie names itself a comedy but I'd have to label it a 'dramedy' really. I was surprised by Dane Cook however, being that I think this may have been his 1st good performance in a movie to date. If you love comedies that have a few good laughs sprinkled in with some serious moments and some sad ones than you should definately see this flick, but don't be expecting any 'Office' like humor non-stop. I actually enjoyed the heck out of this movie. The tears, as well as the laughter. I'm thinking about Steve Carell dancing, singing "Let My Love Open The Door", with Juliette Binoche in the shower, driving his little girl around and nothing's open...it was all just so real. And I agree with the Dane Cook assessment. I think if he would try to joke less, he'd be more appealing on screen.
