Review of Great Debaters

Great Debater

This film is beyond awesome. Oprah [producer]and Denzel [director] displayed transforming vision. The film examines not only the art of Debate but revisits Black history's era of crushing poverty and unimaginable contradictions in America. We peeked into the images behind the shadows of the personalities. I was stuck not only by the casts sheer power of their physical presence but, also by their unusual performance as if you viewed them from the in side out as they revealed our voice. The film's sensuous and inviting details touch me in a way that was most honoring. The consequences for higher ambitions became a vehicle to express an narrative impregnated with a story of integrity. The film's architecture clarity offered full disclosure of human emotion. This was told in our [Black] voice. I remember my Father's spirit of never giving up as a Black business man with all it's particular challenges. The film was set in the 1930's or so. Blacks were still sport for the larger communities.[ lynchings] The atmosphere was one of great difficulty even for affluent intellectual Blacks. The story telling was intriguing, it showed Black men as I know them. Fathers, Businessmen, students, husbands, dignified ,intelligent, witty and passionate people. My grandfathers Rev. J.H. Murray of Murray Temple and James M. Washington Master Plumber and business owner of Washington and Son plumbing Services. My Uncles and cousins, School Principals, Accounts, Doctors, Chemical Engineers, Artist, Computer programmers, Arbitrator's, Media spoke person, Pro-sports figure, proud Black men. Men whom have weathered the storm of racism and injustice and still standing authenticity. This film challenges, provokes, enlightens and exhilarates yet tragic. This is a must see.
