On the Road Again: Toronto 2008So here we go, folks--another round of festival madness is finally upon us. This year, for the Toronto International Film Festival, we're sporting a brand new face (if you've tooled around our home page, you know what I'm talking about), loads of new members (greetings, Tweet fleet!), and a promising partnership with Filmmaker Magazine, with whom we'll be curating a video interview series over the next week. Plus, Mike D'Angelo, film critic for Esquire and Las Vegas Weekly among other outlets, has graciously allowed us to cross-post his TIFF dispatches (or "drive-by" reviews, as he prefers to dub them), which you'll also find at his personal Web site, The Man Who Viewed Too Much. What else? Well, what else do you want? We've already set aside some time to chit-chat with a number of world-class filmmakers, like Jonathan Demme and Michael Winterbottom, but we're also planning to pick the brain of some newbies, too, who are debuting feature work in the Discovery section. Needless to say, we are pumped, and plan to post lots of coverage during our stay. So check back with us each day for sharp, concise reviews and from-the-hip blog musings, as well as our one-of-a-kind video interviews. And join the discussion, too: Do you have a question for an attending filmmaker? Have some feedback on one of our posts? Want to know what those famous Toronto hot dogs really taste like? Zing us your question or comments and I'll reply post haste. Just for kicks, here's a short list of films I can't wait to lay eyes on, for better or worse, and in no particular order: Che (Steven Soderbergh) And those are just a handful of anticipated features (the docs are equally exciting). Some films I've already seen and will eventually get around to posting capsule reviews for are: Lorna's Silence (Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne) Alas, it's time to hit the road with the FC crew. Aboard the bus (or minivan, rather) are Cristina Garza, our super-spunky head of content; Fernando Frias, a talented filmmaker from Mexico City and our official festival videographer; Colombian short-video producer Ana Maria X; and Kirk Faulkner, our webmaster/community evangelist and the man responsible for giving us that gorgeous new facelift. Our first stop is Niagara Falls, so let's hope none of the gang goes crazy with lust in the Honeymoon Capital of the World and plunges into the drink. That would be ... funny.
