2009 Emmy Nominees Announced

        This morning The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 61st Emmy Awards, which will air on August 29th. NBC's 30 Rock scored the most nominations, 22 in total, including Best Comedy Series Best Actor, Comedy Series; Best Actress, Comedy Series; Best Supporting Actor, Comedy Series; and Best Supporting Actress, Comedy Series. AMC's Mad Men comes in second with 16 nominations. Family Guy was nominated for Best Comedy Series, the second animated series to do so ever, the first since The Flintstones was nominated in 1961. Not that this makes sense or anything, as Family Guy is fail.

        FX has given the greenlight to Archer, a new animated series from Adam Reed, one of the men responsible for Cartoon Network's (vastly under-appreciated) Frisky Dingo, as well as Sealab 2021.
        The show, apparently done in the animated style of Frisky Dingo, is set to premiere this Fall sometime around the premiere of the fifth season of FX's (amazing) It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

HBO is picking up a series about Jeffrey Eugenide’s novel Middlesex. Once upon a time, I would have said there’s no way this story will work on TV… But people seem to be into weirder and weirder shit these days, so I’m guessing it will be pretty successful.

According to Cinema Blend, the rumored production of a live action Star Wars television show has been confirmed. Die hard Star Wars fans will be excited to know they plan on getting the best writers from all corners, not just traditional science fiction writers.

Kings; Predicting capitalism 4.0

 

I’ve never listened to a flurry of Biblical references in modern aged television other than Tele-Evangelists and their Christian networks. The acclaimed religion is based on a nation under God’s divine will, albeit Christianity, but juggles the evils of capitalism with liberal religious connotations that may or may interest or offend Christians. Episodes of ‘divine dreams’ and paranormal occurrences that aid with King Silas Benjamin’s decisions ruling over his nation, Gilboa, seem befit more as a depiction of Christianity’s Roman ancestor, Paganism.

But, what got my brain whirring was that Kings potentially depicted a future society that post dates democracy and presently existing countries altogether. With the onset of capitalistic ideals instilled into our curriculum today, I thought, could our society one day be run by a monarchy backed by a man or a board of directors with an untold sum of money?

The Return of Futurama Proves That My Kid Bro Could Be a TV Exec

So Futurama will be given a second chance at TV life because, out of the kindness of their hearts, Comedy Central has ordered 13 new episodes.  

I've seen a fair share of Futurama episodes and I've never been a huge fan of the show, but I am a fan of Family Guy.  Seems kinda funny when you think about how similar this story is when compared to how Family Guy got back on the air.

I became a bigger fan of Family Guy after the show was cancelled by FOX.  I pretty much watched every episode ten times over when they were released on DVD.  The combination of episodes airing on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and the fact that the DVDs were selling like gangbusters made FOX realize that they had made a huge mistake.  So they probably fired the guy who canned the show in the first place and hit up Seth MacFarlane to let him know his baby was back on network TV.  

These days, you'd have to have characteristics similar to Tommy the Pinball Wizard to NOT realize how firmly FOX's fat cat lips are placed on MacFarlane's tush.  Not only do they continue to play episodes of the painfully unfunny American Dad, FOX is letting MacFarlane create a show solely based around the Family Guy character Cleveland.  

I'm all for execs admitting that they're wrong, but this is just getting ridiculous.  The above poster doesn't seem so far fetched anymore.

NBC's Ratings Nightmare

It's official: Letterman has passed Conan in the Nielsen Ratings.

When NBC moved Conan from the 12:30 slot to the 11:30 slot, they obviously had a plan to keep winning the ratings war with Letterman and CBS. Well, GE/NBC Universal's boss Jeff Zucker has failed once again.
