Sirio Maccioni, the owner and face of the celebrated New York restaurant Le Cirque, is the star of this delectable documentary, which chronicles the closing of the former Le Cirque 2000 located inside of the New York Palace Hotel, and its reopening in midtown’s Bloomberg Tower. More than just a tale of a world-renowned restaurant, “A Table in Heaven” is the saga of an Italian-American family who faces all of the trials and tribulations involved in running a family owned business, which can often be the recipe for disaster.

Plot Summary

Fortunately, the members of the Maccioni family have figured out a way to work, eat and vacation together, while simultaneously managing to avoid wringing each other’s necks. Never in doubt is the love and responsibility felt by Sirio towards his three sons, who all want to follow in their father’s footsteps as top restaurateurs. The pride they take in their work shines through, like the light hitting the crystal of the champagne glasses at Le Cirque 2000’s New Year’s Eve party, the night before the restaurant is to close prior to the move. Cameo appearances are made by high-profile customers like Woody Allen and Henry Kissinger. But the biggest problem the Maccioni family faces is figuring out how to imbue the new restaurant with the old-world charm that Siro demands, while simultaneously attracting newcomers like Hollywood jet-setters who don’t want to patronize a restaurant where a jacket and tie are required.
